Worship Set April 3, 2011

This Sunday was an interesting one. We had a lot of challenges pulling this together as a lot of our key women in our church were away on a ladies retreat. This presented a lot of challenges pulling together two worship teams and all the tech people needed. On a whole it did go well but it was hard to get off the ground. A lot of elbow grease was needed.

Contemporary Service:
Started early to play a new song as people came in to find their seats. Seemed to be a positive experience on a whole just as people came. They found it easier to focus on the worship service. It also encouraged the people who usually socialize in the foyer to come in before the service started to find their seat so we had a much more full sanctuary as we started.

9:25am we started with Our God (early)
Worship Set -
Your Grace is Enough
All Creatures of Our God and King
Communion Intro/Explanation -
We did stations around our sanctuary this Sunday
Communion Song/Meditation
The Wonderful Cross - We did this song differently
Verse 1 then read Psalm 131 as the band played through the chorus
Verse 2 then read John 19:1-3 again as the band played the chorus
Verse 3 Chorus Chorus Verse 3 then read Luke 17:33 to finish it off.
This gave enough time for the congregation to participate in communion
Communion Conclusion/Wrap up
Song - Our God
Dismissed the Children
Prayer for the Ladies' Safety on their way back from their retreat
Message - Christ's Kingdom
Song - Better is One Day

Traditional Service:
Welcome and Prayer
Opening Song - Come Now Is The Time to Worship
Congregational Greeting - Shake a hand time
Song - How Great is Our God
Offertory - Played by our Pianist - it was beautiful
Pastoral Prayer
Message - Christ's Kingdom
Communion Bread
Song - How Deep The Father's Love
Communion Cup
Time of Meditation - Song played in background

Both the services did not go quite as we were planning but when do they ever? So we had three songs at the end of the second service and had to cut them all due to time. We probably should have cut more in the first service but there wasn't anything to cut by the time we were running over.

Sunday Set List: March 27, 2011

This past Sunday was interesting. Our first service (our more contemporary) went quite well. Of course there were glitches, however it was decent. I'm still working on coaching my worship team leader on how to select songs based on theme and guiding of the Holy Spirit as oppose to "I like this song ... and this one ... Oh and this one too!"

Here is how are first service was laid out:

  1. Opening Set: Hosanna (Praise is Rising), Psalm 98:4-6 was read, Shout to the Lord
  2. Friendship Books (our way of seeing who is new and getting information from them)
  3. Video on the Armor of God

  4. Time of Prayer - This was to encourage people to pray for God's guidance on how to prepare for spiritual battles as this was our theme for this morning.
  5. Second Set: Blessed Be Your Name, Revelation Song, The River
  6. Children's Dismissal and Prayer
  7. Message - Spiritual Battle (Still based off the book The Divine Prayer Clock)
  8. Offering
  9. Closing Song: I Will Rise
Our Second service was a rough one this Sunday. It seemed as though nothing worked. Music was rough, video that was incorporated was verbally skipped over so there was no mention or explanation even though we had coaching on this specifically. It was just a rough service. Really embarrassing.

  1. Welcome
  2. Set 1: Holy Holy Holy, Psalm 149:1-5 read, My Saviour My God
  3. Congregational Greeting (The good ol' hand shake)
  4. Song: You Are my Strength
  5. Friendship Books
  6. Video (Sames as previous service)
  7. Song: Eagles wings (however a passage out of Isaiah 40 was read first therefore really not helping with having a video right before it)
  8. Pastoral Prayer - Elder
  9. Message - Spiritual Battle
  10. Offering/Offertory
  11. Closing Song: Come Holy Spirit
PS: Does anyone else find it ironic that this service went really wrong with the theme of Spiritual Battle?

Worship Set March 20, 2011

This set was exciting. We just finished a prayer conference working through a book called "The Divine Prayer Clock". It was exciting to lead the musical worship each night and welcome people to the evening of learning about prayer. This Sunday we were so happy to see people engaging into corporate worship. I love being on stage and seeing God's children worship Him. I'd love some feed back and also ideas about what I could have added or taken away. I'm always looking for new edgy things to try and push our congregation in worship.

I'm posting this back at theworshipcommunity.com so other can check it out. Take a look there to see more ideas and thoughts on worship.

Sunday Set List: November 28, 2010

  1. Welcome - Sing Jesus Loves the Little Children
This is part of our theme for Advent "Christmas Around The World". We are adding a verse each week as we open with it.
  2. Opening Song Package:
    Come and Fill Me Up
Awesome God (Chorus and Mixed it into the next song)
  3. Drama
This Drama series is running throughout Advent written by the Worship Arts Design Team. Last week and this week has gone very well and great response and interaction with the congregation.
  4. Kids Feature
  5. Songs:
O Come O Come Emmanuel (Jazz Variation - So Much Fun!)
    We Fall Down
  6. Advent Reading
  7. Message
  8. Song of Response: Holy Is The Lord
  9. Offering Set Up
  10. Song: Revelation Song
We started this song during the offering and then invited the people to stand by the time we got to the chorus for the first time.
This Service seemed to have gone really well. Our morning was crazy with people not being around when we needed them, our bass guitarist was a witness to an accident on the way to church in the morning and didn't show up until just before the service. All in all, it was a crazy morning and it just seemed to excite my faith in what God was going to do in that service. Things went really smoothly and the congregation really seem to be interactive and engaged. It was encouraging to see God working through the worship, drama and tech teams.

Sunday Set List: November 21, 2010

Intro Theme:
Jesus Loves The Little Children
Opening Songs:
Hosanna (Praise Is Rising)
Blessed Be Your Name
Ministry Promo
Pre-Advent Reading
Be The Centre
Spiritual Encouragement - Scripture Memorization Achievement
Come and Fill Me Up (Sung as a solo)
Offering Song:
You Are My King (Amazing Love)
Closing Song:
Our Father In Heaven

This week seemed to work well. It felt a little off from the stage but it apparently went well. We cut down the songs by two and it helped the leader a lot. We tried something different closing our service: The song "Our Father In Heaven" has a benediction as the chorus and so we sung the chorus twice, then played quietly as the leader dismissed the congregation but also invited them to take the chorus as their benediction, then we sang it a Capella, which turned out beautifully and brought the band back into it after singing the chorus through once and then finished off the song. This blog was started to participate on theworshipcommunity.com for the set list review forum. (http://www.theworshipcommunity.com/sunday-setlists-122/)

On a whole this service went fine. I felt like I was doing to much though. I was trying to play with my electric instead of acoustic (I normally play acoustic) and then my team was needing a lot of coaching so that was drawing my focus away from leading. It was a challenge this Sunday for me.
